THE CULTURE HOUSE OF ANDREJ HLINKA

This imposing, timeless building designed by Ružomberok architect Ján Burjan was constructed from 1927 to 1928. The construction was carried out by Ondrej Janček and Jozef Pešek. The construction of this monumental, multi-functional building was initiated by Andrej Hlinka. It is now a centre of cultural, social and sporting life. It was jointly financed by the Catholic society, Andrej Hlinka and through a public collection from local people and American Slovaks. In 1941 the building took on its final form following the desing of Vojtech Dommer (1938), with the construction work being carried out by the company of Július Záchenský. The appearance of the building displays features of the Rondocubism style. A complete renovation designed by Igor Maťaťa was carried out, with some breaks, between 1997 and 2004.
