ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH OF THE ELEVATION OF THE HOLY CROSS

The Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross began life in the year 1806 when the monastic residency of the Piarist order was reconstructed with the financial support of Andrej Zvada Paračka, a townsman of Ružomberok and business man. This sacral construction in the Empire style completes the space of Andrej Hlinka´s square. The original church layout of a single nave, tower and a semicircular sanctuary has been preserved. In the niches in the frontal facade, stone sculptures of Saint Ján Nepomucký and Saint Jozef Kalazanský, from the workshop of Alexander Belopotocký, can be found. The interior furnishings from the 19th and 20th century are the work of Alexander Belopotocký and Valér Aurel Zavarsky, and the interior vaulted ceilings are adorned with paintings from Jozef Hanula. Even though they belong to the early work of the artist they display his characteristic style and expressions.
